NADINE TABING

I really enjoyed Odyssey’s Writer’s Toolkit class. Though I had experience writing and completing short stories, I really wanted to write a novel and kept finding myself struggling with dead ends and stagnancy no matter whether I tried to force myself to outline or force myself to draft. In this class, I gained new perspective on the process of drafting as well as techniques to push myself out of ruts and tough spots, both in terms of plot and in terms of the murky emotions that can come up around writing. The insight I’ve gained through thoughtful critique from Greg and my classmates has given me a completely new and inspiring way of looking at the stories that I read and write. I genuinely feel like a different writer with new skills, and I feel more confident navigating both my writing, and the tumultuous highs and lows of sustaining a practice of writing over my lifetime.
